Learn about the health food scene from 5 rising players in the region.
A plant-based cafe that serves unprocessed whole foods, Nourish Cafe is looking at opportunities in Singapore and possibly other parts of Thailand, but currently focuses on getting Bangkok as successful as its sister outlet in Yangon. The goal is to have Nourish Cafe in every major city and international airport, one step at a time.
Founder
As a lifelong health food junkie and martial arts practitioner, Tammi Willis used to work at various bars and restaurants before running Nourish Cafe.
Inspiration
Plant-based, gluten-free dishes that contain no sugar. Other inspirations come from meals that are friendly for pescetarians and vegetarians as well as dishes that support the hay diet and, more recently, intermittent fasting.
Signature dish
Nourish Burger - served with a brioche bun and accompanied with a black-bean patty, this vegetable burger is accompanied by an Asian slaw and sweet potato fries.
Advice for food operators
Tammi suggests food operators start off with a simple menu and add items over time. She also reminds food operators to spend some time and energy on marketing, especially if the new restaurants are located in urban areas. Most importantly, she reminds food operators to look after the well-being of their staff because everyone is running the business together.
Future health food prediction
Many health food products are still either unavailable in the area or incredibly expensive. Tammi hopes that Thailand will see more affordable healthy food ingredients available in coming years, as more access to ingredients will translate into more varieties for customers.
